Welcome to the award-winning official website for the Furness Railway Trust.
The FRT owns Britain's oldest working standard gauge steam locomotive, Furness Railway Number 20, GWR duo 0-6-2T 5643 and 4979 "Wootton Hall", Austerity "Cumbria" and our vintage train.
We are based in the North West of England but our locomotives and carriages are found at heritage railway sites nationwide.
Our fund-raising and your support keeps us going. Why not Gift Aid a donation?!
Two engines undergoing 10 yr overhaul
The
FRT's workhorses 5643 and "Cumbria" are both undergoing specialist firebox repairs.
5643's boiler is expected back from Loughborough soon, whilst that from "Cumbria" will keep the SVR boilershop at Bridgnorth busy for a while longer. We hope 5643 will return to action later this year.

Our 149 year old veteran is at the SVR to mark 150 years of trains on the Severn Valley Railway.
The engine will haul shuttle trains at Kidderminster this weekend, but first up was 20's first Royal Train duty! HRH the Duke of Gloucester was hauled by the FRT flagship loco between Kidderminister and Bewdley on 14th May where the Duke unveiled a plaque marking the 150 years of trains on the line. This superb photo by David Wilcock shows the train arriving at Bewdley station.
