THE FURNESS RAILWAY TRUST

Registered Charity 1005211

The Furness Railway Trust is a Registered Charity, based in North West England. Originally based at the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway in Cumbria, we have relocated away from that site and have now emerged as a leading hirer of locomotives and rolling stock to heritage railways and museums.

We are looking to establish a workshop and museum . It is our number one priority to provide suitable facilities for restoration work. The Trust is in detailed discussions with the Ribble Steam Railway with the view to locating a workshop and small artefacts museum at their site in Preston's docklands. Our locomotives and rolling stock are on display and are demonstrated in action at the railways up and down the country where they are on hire.

FR Number 20North London coach leaving Haverthwaite for restorationWe own a number of locomotives, including the oldest working standard gauge steam engine in Britain, Furness Railway Number 20. There is much more about this historic and important engine - and stablemates GWR 0-6-2T 5643, Austerity "Cumbria" and GWR 4-6-0 "Wootton Hall" elsewhere in this website. Our current projects range from steam locomotives to our vintage train, fund-raising and folk music....!

Every year the Trust has to produce an Annual Report which is sent off to the Charity Commissioners, the body which regulates all registered charities in the UK. Read what was achieved in the calendar years of 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000 and 1999. The Trust's activities are regulated by it's Objects and Powers.

But our activities go wider than this, and we are now recognised as one of the leading players in the field of railway preservation in northern England.

There are lots of ways you can get involved with the Furness Railway Trust - the best is for you to join us!

The FRT's Committee members and Trustees carry responsibility for delivering our projects. Got something you want to tell us? We have Email, postal and telephone contacts for the FRT.

This the Trust's award-winning website.
