The flagship of the FRT fleet, and the oldest working steam locomotive in the country. Originally built for the FR in 1863, the engine then saw lengthy service at the Barrow steelworks before being saved for first static and then living preservation! FR 20 is at Locomotion - the National Railway Museum at Shildon, County Durham but will move soon to the Ribble Steam Railway in Preston, the FRT's new home base for the February gala and Easter steamings. |

Austerity 0-6-0ST "Cumbria"Our first steam locomotive, "Cumbria" served with the War Department before being bought in 1973. It passed the 100,000 mile mark on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and is now based at the Ribble Steam Railway but available for hire to heritage railways. It is undergoing its 10 year heavy general overhaul, which has been brought forward because of the need to replace part of the inner firebox. The boiler is at the Severn Valley Railway for contract work. |
GWR 0-6-2T 5643The Trust's roving ambassador is at the Ribble Steam Railway undergoing its 10 year heavy general overhaul, with the boiler receiving specialist attention in Loughborough. The overhaul was brought forward because of the need to remove the boiler from the frames to attend to foundation ring rivets and to carry out a full retube. See where it is and its future programme, read it's history, find out how the restoration progressed, discover how you can still help, and look back at the successful boiler tube appeal. |
